Four Rescued Seal Pups Released

Four rescued seal pups, who have all sucessfully been nursed back to health by our Animal Care Team, are being released today.
Aquarist Josh Saunders will be taking the lead on the release and will certaily have his hands full with four seal pups leaving at the same time after a busy season at the Seal Rescue Centre.
The four pups being released are Bertha, Sheila, Mabel and Arnold.
"It's definitely going to be a long day but the reward is that we know the seals are well enough to survive in the wild and are going back where they belong" said Josh.
"Each pup was severely de-hydrated and under-nourished when they were brought into the Seal Rescue Centre and weighed between 9-12kilos. I'm glad to say now though, that they are at the ideal release weight of 30kilos and stand a really great chance of surviving" he continued.
All four pups will be released at Donna Nook where there is an established seal colony so they will feel right at home.
There will, however, still be two rescued pups at the centre keeping the Animal Care Team busy. Eva and Brian, as they have been christened, are yet to reach the ideal weight before they can be released and so will spend a little longer at Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary.
